When the orginal design of the new building was commissioned back in 2003 water conservation was not a hot topic like it is today. Over the years our weather patterns and our environment have changed dramatically. A key decision was made in mid 2007 to have the new building re-designed to reflect the changes in our environment. Subsequently a decision was made to incorporate as many water and energy saving devices as possible into the new building design. A long process began to research, test and make decisions on the very best water saving products for our new building. Cost was not a consideration in deciding to incorporate these features, the prime goal was to sustain our environment and reduce the parks footprint on the environment.
In preparing the final budget for the project it became apparent that the water and energy saving products that were to be included in the new guest amenities would add 10% to the construction cost. A major decision was also made to retro fit some of these devices to the parks northern amenities block and the holiday camp. Collectively the total cost of water saving devices will be $100,000.
It is a fact that this investment in our environment is a massive investment, but it is a small price to pay for the benefits that will flow to our environment for many many years to come. Below we have provided photo's and information on each of the key water saving devices that our new building will have. The goal is for the park as a whole to save 1,000,000 litres of water per annum.

Electronic Shower Timer - This unique Australian made and owned shower timer will assist our customers to time their showers and save large amounts of water. Each timer will be set with a predetermined time frame for each shower. Audible beeps and count down display will operate throughout each shower which will give the shower user an updated time remaining for their shower. Water saving shower heads will also be installed and used in conjunction with the electronic shower timer. This product was choosen on its reliability and ease of use - it only requires one press of the button to operate. This product is currently installed in the front guest amenities and will be installed into the holiday camp and the new guest amenities during construction. We would like to thank Kevin & Simon from Aquaflow Distributors for all their assistance in supplying our Shower Timers. |

Waterless Urinals - In the mens toilets in the new building we have elected to install environmentally sustainable waterless urinals. These products have a unique design that allows them to function without the need for water. They are odurless and easier to clean and maintain. It is expected that this product will save alot of water each year. |
Rainwater Tanks - The new building will have 2 x 5000 gallon tanks that will harvest rain water from the roof of the new guest amenities. A tank will be placed at each end of the building and will be fenced off to prevent children accessing the tanks. In the design of the new toilets when a toilet is flushed a system will be in place that will automatically draw water from the tanks for the flush, if there is not enough water in the tanks the system will draw in mains water to flush the toilets. This system is automated and will require less strain on our town water supply as we will be capable of flushing our toilets with rain water collected into our new tanks. |
Water Pumps - To increase water pressure in the new building we are installing several water pumps, we are also installing a new dedicated water line from the front gate of the park to the new building, this will ensure a constant and workable pressure. In addition to the increased water pressure the new line will eliminate the many leaks in the existing pipes, which will contribute a large water saving. |
Washing Machines & Dryers - As part of the new building water efficient front loading washing machines and gas dryers will be installed. A retro fit of the existing laundry in the front amenities will also see new front loading washing machines installed. These new units will increase capacitiy and save considerable amounts of water. Gas dryers are more energy efficient then their electric counterparts. A considerable investment that will directly benefit every customer in the park and our environment. |
Hot Water System - The new guest amenities hot water plant will be made up from banks of instantaneous gas hot water units. These units lay idol and when a hot tap is turned on they spring into action producing endless amounts of regulated hot water. The days of the water during your shower going cold are almost over!, we have selected units with the capacity to more then cater for all showers and hot water requirements for the building. also because they only function when a hot tap is on. they are very energy efficient. these units will replace our existing solar, gas and electric hot water units in the new building. |
